Prehistory
Chris Salih and Tyler Tyler met in 2008 at a party through mutual friends. Chris liked the way Tyler plays and sings and suggested making music together. They played several times in Chris's homemade recording studio and then they decided to form a band.
Recording
The album was recorded in the homemade recording studio in the basement of the house that Tyler Joseph, Nick Thomas, Chris Salih, and Nick's brother were staying in at the time. The lyrics of the album were mainly written by Joseph, with only small changes being suggested by the other two members, while the music was written and arranged by all three.

Unreleased songs
"Time to Say Goodbye" this song should have made it onto the album, but because of the samples from Italian singer Andrea Bocelli's song "Con te partirò" sung in duet with Sarah Brightman. But still the song was released in early 2010 on the band's official website for free download.
