Background
On “Addict with a Pen,” Tyler begins to pray to God after they “haven’t talked in quite some time.” He confesses his sins and begs his creator for redemption, or to forgive him of his sins, illustrating this as being provided water in a desert.
“Addict with a Pen” is a fan favorite and has even had some of the most emotional performances live. It is also one of the few songs that twenty one pilots proudly acknowledges from their self-titled era.[1]
