<ref name=":0">https://genius.com/Twenty-one-pilots-implicit-demand-for-proof-lyrics</ref>.
I've always felt like this song was about worries, fears, and problems that you can never really leave behind and trying to escape from them momentarily even though you know in the back of you mind they are still there. In the first verse it gets into these problems, "wanting to be listened to" not "heard" and being bothered when others have the same name. Then after another verse it ends with "So let's think of something better" and the chorus starts. I think the "forest" represents a place to escape to and "singing" as something to tune out your problems with. When they mention the chorus being one that everybody knows I imagine it's because it's supposed to be "normal" and "expected" which is what he is trying to be by avoiding his problems and putting up a front. The "hands held higher" and "we'll" be on fire" part is the problems catching up to him. Then in the next verse he addresses them: "Quickly moving towards the storm Moving forward, torn into pieces Over reasons of what these storms are for I don't understand why everything I adore Takes a different form when I squint my eyes

Have you ever done that, when you squint your eyes And your eyelashes make it look a little not right And when just enough light comes from just the right side And you find that you're not who you're supposed to be? This is not what you're supposed to see"

In these verses he has stepped out of the forest and is slowly coming back to the reality of his situation. That nothing is perfect and the harder he focuses on it, the worse the problems seem. After spending so much time away in his "forest" he has forgotten his own problems and when they suddenly show up again he panics and they seem 10x worse. Hence:

"Please, remember me, I am supposed to be king of the king Devil swinging on the swing, something happened in my imagination The situation's becoming dire, my treehouse is on fire And for some reason I smell gas on my hands This is not what I had planned"

In fear he runs back to his "forest" and continues to ignore his problems. [https://songmeanings.com/songs/view/3530822107858875305/]

|[Verse 1]
|[Intro]
I know You're not a liar and I know You could set fire this day
Ooh, ooh

Ooh, ooh

Ooh

[Verse 1]

I don't know why I feed on emotion

There's a stomach inside my brain

I don't wanna be heard, I wanna be listened to

Does it bother anyone else that someone else has your name?

Oh, does it bother anyone else that someone else has your name, your name?

[Pre-Chorus]

I scream, you scream

We all scream, 'cause we're terrified

Go ahead and make me look away
Of what's around the corner

Strike me down, I am calling Your lightning down from Your dark hiding place
We stay in place

Go ahead and show me Your face
'Cause we don't wanna lose our lives

So let's think of something better

[Chorus]
[Chorus]

Reign down and destroy me
Down in the forest, we'll sing a chorus

Reign down and destroy me
One that everybody knows

Reign down (Reign down)
Hands held higher, we'll be on fire

Singing songs that nobody wrote

[Verse 2]
[Verse 2]

I mean no disrespect
My brain has given up, white flags are hoisted

I took some food for thought, it might be poisoned

The stomach in my brain throws up onto the page

Does it bother anyone else that someone else has your name?

Does it bother anyone else that someone else has your name?

[Pre-Chorus]

I scream, you scream

We all scream, 'cause we're terrified

Of what's around the corner

We stay in place

I am simply very perplexed by Your ways
'Cause we don't wanna lose our lives

Why would you let us use your name?
So let's think of something better (Better)

Oh

[Chorus]
[Chorus]

Reign down and destroy me
Down in the forest, we'll sing a chorus

One that everybody knows

Hands held higher, we'll be on fire

Singing songs that nobody wrote

[Bridge]

Quickly moving towards the storm, moving forward, torn

Into pieces over reasons of what these storms are for

I don't understand why everything I adore

Takes a different form when I squint my eyes

Have you ever done that? When you squint your eyes

And your eyelashes make it look a little not right

Reign down and destroy me
And then when just enough light comes from just the right side

Reign down and destroy me
And you find you're not who you're supposed to be?

Reign down and destroy me
This is not what you're supposed to see

Please, remember me?

[Outro]
I am supposed to be

Reign down (Down!)
King of a kingdom, or swinging on a swing

Reign down (Down!)
Something happened to my imagination

(Down! Down! Reign!)
The situation's becoming dire

|''«I know You're not a liar and I know You could set fire this day''
''Go ahead and make me look away»''
|Tyler believes that all of God’s promises
(everlasting life will be eventually fulfilled,
but because of his doubt, he still wants physical proof of His existence.
This is why he is asking for God to show himself and make it rain fire upon the
Earth now, just as the Bible says it will during the final days in 2 Peter 3:10:<blockquote>But the day of the Lord will come like a thief,

and then the heavens will pass away with a roar,
And for some reason I smell gas on my hands

and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved,
This is not what I had planned

and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.</blockquote>“Make me look away,” could be a reference to Genesis 19,
This is not what I had planned

where God destroyed the two cities of Sodom and Gomorrah with a rain of fire.
Down in the forest, we'll sing a chorus (Forest, chorus)

When God told Lot to leave with his family,
Hands held higher, we'll be on fire

they were told to not look directly at the cities burning,
Singing songs that nobody wrote

for little did they know, they would turn to salt if they peeked;
[Chorus]

Lot’s wife learned the hard way.
Down in the forest, we'll sing a chorus

A less literal analysis of this line is that God is
One that everybody knows, yeah

making him look away from any proof, forcing him to solely rely on his faith.<ref name=":0" />
Hands held higher, we'll be on fire
|-
|«''Strike me down, I am calling Your lightning down from Your dark hiding place''
''Go ahead and show me Your face»''
|Tyler is taunting God, trying to draw Him out and make Him prove Himself. What Tyler doesn’t realize is that God isn’t hiding; Tyler simply hasn’t found Him of his own accord. He resorts to blasphemy, asking for his own self-destruction. What Tyler is asking for is comparable to what was described in either Job 36 or Job 37.
“Show me your face,” connects with the chorus and the previous demands for self destruction as well (“Strike me down”). It is quite likely an allusion to Exodus 33:20:<blockquote>‘But,’ he said, ‘you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.’</blockquote>Ironically, this line defies the meaning of an implicit demand. “Show me your face” is an ''explicit'' , or direct, demand, whereas an ''implicit'' demand would be indirect with only the implication of a demand.<ref name=":0" />
|-
|«Reign down and destroy me
Reign down and destroy me

Reign down (Reign down)»
Singing songs that nobody wrote
|Tyler taunts God, vying for his attention or acknowledgement by saying, “Go ahead, destroy me, then at least I’ll know you’re real.” Recognizing that God does not owe him an answer (as seen in Job 38), he may also be asking for God to destroy him as an atonement for all of his doubting.
The word “reign” in these lines could have a double meaning, acting as a homophone for “rain.” Gods are usually seen as having control of the weather and the sky, bringing bad weather to punish people for things such as blasphemy. God is also known as the “King of kings,” and Tyler is asking God to actually “reign down” by doing something that only a king or a god could do to prove their existence.

This could also be a nod to Radiohead’s 1997 song “Paranoid Android” where it says:<ref name=":0" /><blockquote>Rain down, rain down
[Outro]

Come on, rain down on me
Hands held higher, we'll be on fire

From a great height
Hands held higher, we'll be on fire (Fire)
|}

|}

From a great height, height</blockquote>

!Lyrics
''I am simply very perplexed by Your ways»''
|Sometimes following blindly in the words and ways of your superiors can be confusing and lead you to question their motives; not out of malice, but out of genuine curiosity. Nobody likes to be left in the dark.
More specifically, Tyler strives to understand God Himself more thoroughly. This is seen more blatantly in Tyler’s song “Blasphemy” from his 2008 solo project, ''No Phun Intended''. He seems to possess some resentment towards God in this line, as many do after suffering some sort of trauma. He questions His methods, which is not acceptable behavior according to some Christian churches, but is common in those who feel hopeless.<ref name=":0" />
|-
|-
|«''Why would you let us use your name?»''
|“Be Concerned” is about how Tyler has begun to question his faith. It appears that it documents a hard time Tyler went through, but eventually overcame, as Tyler’s faith still illuminates even his more recent lyrics that the band has released.
|As many worshipers have expressed, Tyler is curious as to why God would create humans with the ability to sin. In biblical times, the true name of God was considered much too holy to be spoken aloud. This may also allude to the famous passage in the Book of Exodus in which speaking the Lord’s name in vain is made to be a crime:<blockquote>Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.</blockquote>It’s appropriate to note here that Tyler never directly says “God” in his songs (save for “A Car, A Torch, A Death”), even though many clearly contain religious allusions. As this article suggests, it almost seems as if this is done to draw people in, then let them figure it out for themselves.<ref name=":0" />
Like a handful of other tracks from ''Regional at Best'', this song was not included in its 2013 remastered successor, ''Vessel''. While the song bears dense lyrical content, it has never been a huge fan-favorite, and it would make sense that Tyler wouldn’t want to constantly reflect on such a negative time in his life.

“Be Concerned” also features Tyler’s friend Jocef of the Jocef Michael Band, an Ohio-based Christian group. [https://genius.com/Twenty-one-pilots-be-concerned-lyrics]
